Hide and seek...finding lost pets
PetLink.com offers some useful tips for recovering a lost pet. Naturally, the best thing you can do is have your pets micro-chipped, but even a tag with your pet's name and your name, address and phone number can go a long way to helping Fido (or Fluffy) get back home! It's also good to include your cellphone number on the tag (then if someone locates the pet while you are out searching, you will know right away)!
First, you need to remain calm. If your pet is chipped, then file a report. Print lost pet posters and canvas about a 2-mile area surrounding your home. Be sure to put up the posters as you go and also leave them with neighbors, veterinarians, shelters and area parks. (And have a favorite toy and some treats on hand for your lost pet).
Don't forget to call your local animal shelters, vet offices, Humane Society and even the police department. Someone may have turned your buddy in already!
